MAGNY COURS F1
Magny Cours was the long-established home of the French Grand Prix which was staged at the circuit from 1991 until 2008. The circuit is less than 5 hours from Calais and 150 miles south east of Paris. With excellent motorway connections the track is very accessible and with the vineyards of Bourgogne on the doorstep it’s in a truly beautiful part of France.
It offers excellent facilities comparable to any other track on the calendar. The mirror smooth surface to the track is perfect for Formula 1 with the circuit configuration offering a fabulous blend of fast straights, long sweeping corners such as Estoril and tight hairpins such as the challenging Adelaide where drivers such as Hamilton or Schumacher would approach at 190 mph before getting hard on the brakes for the 25 mph Adelaide hairpin. You will be driving the full Grand Prix circuit with a length of 4.4 km.
F1 Grand Prix winning drivers from the past that had their first experience of racing at Magny Cours in the circuit’s academy school include Jacques Lafitte, Francois Cevert and Didier Pironi. The Ligier and Prost F1 teams were based at the track and today the cars we use for our Formula One Courses are housed and maintained in a purpose-built facility at the circuit.
The track is flat, smooth surfaced and fast. Some of the 17 corners and sections of the track are inspired by parts of other F1 circuits and are named accordingly – Adelaide, Imola and Estoril. Schumacher was the master of Magny Cours with a remarkable 9 GP wins. The latest layout was designed in 2004 and Alonso still holds the lap record (pole position) from that year at 1.13.6.
