The bars and cafes in the village run throughout the night and the champagne bar has an inexhaustible supply of bubbly and every bottle nicely chilled!

Departing Dover early on Friday morning the driving route heads through the countryside and into the Suisse-Normande region arriving at our hotel in a small spa town north west of Le Mans. A splendid dinner with wine gets the weekend off to a great start and perhaps a visit to the Casino and night club is in order. Le Mans is just 45 minutes away so after you park your car up at the Base HQ, move into your pre-erected tent and have a beer and some brunch head out to the start of the race. In the evening there will be a freshly cooked dinner and party night before our night coach takes you around the track with stop-offs at Arnage and Mulsanne. Breakfast with a choice of continental or British is on the go from early in the morning. The mid-afternoon race finish will leave you plenty of time to catch the evening return ferry but if you want to stay over for another night we can arrange hotel accommodation. For 2022 Cannonball Bike Run (CBR) will head to new and undiscovered territory.

Starting in the uber-cool surf town of Biarritz, SW France in the borderlands of the Pyrenees, the route will loosely follow the Pilgrim’s Way through the rolling green hills of Basque country and The Cantabrian Mountains before reaching the point that was “The End of the Known World” for centuries.

Venturing back East, we will finish in the rejuvenated city of Bilbao for the final night party celebration.

The 18th annual CBR will focus on fabulous Northern Spain with an all-new 3000-kilometre route bringing you the very best riding that this stunning region has to offer. The Cannonball is renowned for always pushing the boundaries but of course some things will not change – the famous blend of fabulous roads from mountain to shining sea and at the end of a hard day’s riding you can expect classic countryside & historic hotels alongside uber modern city residences – all with secure parking.

The actual route is kept secret until the event but we understand that CBR is all about the riding and the routes will be hand-picked and pre-ridden so you can expect the best riding you have ever experienced.

It goes without saying that CBR 2022 will include all the traditional Cannonball features: back-up support & luggage van, dinners every night, breakfast each morning, final party night, trophies, goodies, photos etc.

Imagine the scene:  A pit garage at a Grand Prix circuit in Europe. The engine is fired up and that distinctive and glorious roar of an F1 race car warming up sets the pulse racing.  You are fitted into the cockpit, harness tightened and then waved onto the circuit – the track is all yours.  You are in control. Flick the paddles and the awesome acceleration leaves you breathless. Into the first corner and scrub off speed – your first taste of carbon brakes is unbelievable. Accelerating through the long curves the car sticks to the road then up through the gears onto the straight before braking hard again ….. It’s hard to believe that you really are driving an F1 car on a real grand Prix circuit. Unforgettable.

GENUINE F1 CARS

All the F1 cars are genuine and have raced and scored points in the World Championship and are maintained by a team of ex-F1 mechanics.  Remember there is no catch – all you need is an ordinary driving license and be at least 25 years old and that’s it. You can then be rolling out of the pits onto a Grand Prix circuit in a full-house F1 with no rev limits and no speed limits.

Only available in Europe, Wildside’s  ‘F1 Driver for the Day’ programme offers the choice of the Grand Prix circuits of Magny Cours in France and the Grand Prix circuit at Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain plus the home of the Portuguese Grand Prix – Portimao.

WHAT TO EXPECT 

Whichever circuit you choose the driving course takes place on a single day – and what a day it is. Driving a Formula One is a real privilege and we want you to get the maximum out of this unique experience. You won’t arrive at the track to find a crowd of other participants. A maximum of just 18 other drivers per day ensures you get the personalised attention you expect. There is a truly refreshing approach from the instructors who are genuinely keen for you to really experience the incredible power and g-forces generated by these cars. This is a world apart from the usual track school ‘sausage factory’ approach of rev limits, following a course car and over-bearing instructors.

At the circuit you will be kitted out in F.I.A. approved Nomex race suits, race boots, gloves and helmet – all personally selected for you.  Before being let loose in the F1 you will take to the track in morning sessions driving a single seater, paddle shift 230 km/h Formula Renault 2.0.

THE F1 EXPERIENCE 

In the afternoon ‘your’ F1 awaits. The pit lane features a squadron of Formula One cars from Benetton, Jaguar, Prost and Williams including the 2.4 litre V8 2011 Williams FW33. The cars are all equipped with steering wheel mounted paddle-shift, carbon brakes and up to 700 BHP that generates speed you can only dream of. And you are also able to select either V10 or V8 engines. Of course, the power is only half the story, get the carbon brakes up to temperature and your perception of ‘performance’ will be altered forever.

The Circuit De Barcelona-Catalunya just a few kilometres outside the famous city of Barcelona is the well-established home of the Spanish Grand Prix and has been host to some fantastic races over the years. It is also the preferred circuit for pre-season testing. This year is the 30th anniversary for the circuit which saw Nigel Mansell winning that first GP back in 1991. The location benefits from excellent weather conditions with the track offering a challenging mix of twisty sections, fast sweeping bends, slow corners and fast long straights plus a variety of elevation changes. The cars streak past the pits virtually flat-out treating spectators to that incredible sound that only F1 cars can make. The circuit features a mix of fast and slow corners, a long straight and a variety of elevation changes.

The La Caixa corner offers one of the many challenges with the F1 drivers braking from over 300 km/h on the Campsa straight into this, the slowest point on the track, with a cornering speed at just 90 km/h.  The long right hander, Renault, sees F1s accelerating up to 280 km/h as they exit and the long, long pit straight gives the opportunity to max out the car with the F1 cars hitting 325 km/h.

The 4.6km lap has 16 corners and the lap record is held by Valtteri Bottas who posted 1:18.18 in the 2020 GP. Schumacher and  Hamilton tie on 6 victories 

Of course, another advantage is the closeness to Barcelona itself. The track is around 30 minutes away from the city and the airport offers many international direct routes. Barcelona needs little introduction.

Vibrant and filled with outdoor markets, restaurants, busy bars and nightclubs as well as museums, churches, the Gothic old town and the breath taking work of Antoni Gaudi – plus of course, a white sandy beach – this Spanish city has a distinct flavour all of its own.

Crowding is not a problem as we strictly limit numbers so there is plenty of room on board. The bar is open and drinks are free all day from 10am until 6pm. Mid morning snacks are offered followed by a fine gourmet lunch with lobster, hand carved ham, beef, wines and delicate desserts – served and finished with ample time before the race gets underway.

The privately chartered boat is moored in a superb spot at Tabac corner (see circle in photo) a matter of feet away from the track. You will have a close up uninterrupted view at one of the best corners on the circuit (rated by Martin Brundle as the toughest on the track) as the cars brake hard from the straight after the chicane before powering off down to the swimming pool complex. Although you are right up close to the action it’s vital to keep in touch with what’s happening around the track and the harbour’s giant TV screen above the famous tunnel chicane will keep you informed throughout the race (backed up by live feed monitors on the boat). From the deck you can view the Tunnel exit and the chicane before the short straight into Tabac and away. After the race it’s champagne and a private post-race party on a hotel roof top overlooking the harbour.

MIAMI 

Wildside took a corporate group across the pond to the East Coast of the USA for 4 full-on days in March.

We checked out Little Havana, cruised along the famous South Beach and indulged in the dusk till dawn nightclub scene.  On arrival at Miami International we took chauffeur transfers in stretched limos to the hotel in Miami. In the evening the renowned Miami nightlife awaited us. Day Two and we were off due south in our fleet of convertible Mustangs toward Key West.

We drove along the Atlantic coastline stopping off at Lake Crocodile in Key Largo before reaching the islands of the ‘Lower Keys’ and Key West where we spent the night. That afternoon we took some jet skis and indulged in  a 28 mile 2 hour high speed thrash along the coast of the ‘Keys’ before hitting the bars and lounges of Duval Street in the evening. The next morning in our fleet of Mustangs with the tops down we headed back north through the islands before heading east into the Everglades arriving at our hotel in Marco Island on the Gulf Coast. Miles of golden beaches plus bars and restaurants make it a perfect stop-off. Day four and the drive back towards Miami included an air-boat tour through this fascinating region. Reaching Miami in the early afternoon we partook in a little ‘boat racing’ with two 20 foot powerboats on hand as we headed  out onto the sea for a blast (and a swim).

A short drive from Geneva and Chamonix in the French Alps is a private ice racing circuit. The track is at 5000 feet altitude – high up in the mountains. At 1 kilometre in length and a minimum width of 10 metres the lap features hairpin bends, sweeping curves plus fast straights as it climbs and descends.

The cars are Renaults – including RS Clios.  Agile, quick and fantastic fun; they are ideal for the track and fitted with studded ice racing tyres the cars are perfect for the tricky conditions.

We can also arrange an upgrade to driving Subaru WRX 4WD. With 230 bhp available and four wheel drive – enough said!

With a maximum of 14 people on the course and 2 per car you will get maximum track time. The instructors will show each driver how to control the car with techniques such as throttle steering, opposite locking, handbrake turns, left foot braking and power sliding. It not only produces fabulous entertainment and high levels of adrenalin but gives you some very useful skills for driving in what is now becoming almost the usual British Winter.

Famous racing names that have been through the Course feature: Alonso, Grosjean, Mansell and Prost so you will be in excellent company.

Included in the Tour is 2 nights hotel accommodation with breakfast and is just a short drive away from the ice circuit and 3 days car hire (pick up/drop off Geneva airport.) We can also tailor make the Tour to suit you as perhaps you may not require the hire car or want to add some extra days – just let us know what you require.

If you want to add some extra excitement then we can arrange for winter travel of a different kind….the snowmobile. A motorbike on snow; it can take you places where even a 4×4 could only dream of and you will ride the ski slopes in the dark. Still not had enough?  Then what about a helicopter flight over the Alps or even the very summit of Mont Blanc – Europe’s tallest mountain.  Perhaps you would like to add on some skiing?
